Make hay while the sun shines! (Solar Cells)
With the whole world emphasizing on “going green” and reducing global warming, solar cells seems to be an apt solution. Solar cells convert the light from the sun directly into electricity which can be stored and put to use at will. This device was founded by Charles Fritts in 1883. It works on a phenomenon called photovoltaic effect, a photovoltaic material absorbs photons from sunlight and in turn releases an electron and on a large scale it leads to the flow of DC current. An array of solar cells together is called a solar panel and is used in watches, calculators, satellites, cars etc.
