Knowing the nic (network interface card)

The role of a network interface card better known as (NIC) is that of a facilitator as it permits connections of personal computers or workstations in a computer network. Installation of network interface card finds utility in the LAN (Local Area Network) system wherein Ethernet or the Token Ring is used. The NIC ensures round the clock permanent connection in a computer network allowing computers to receive as well as send data through the Local Area Network. The NIC is allotted a unique Ethernet source address stored in the form of a PROM on the card itself.
